Raf Verjans Brutalist Coffee Table with Agate Stone, Belgium 1970's
Spectacular Brutalist coffee table designed by Raf Verjans in Belgium, circa 1970. The table has a solid black wooden base topped with a black metal frame that has been filled with concrete. The aluminium and brass mosaic details on the tabletop have been laid into the concrete by hand, with an eyecatching agate stone as the center piece. This hand made process results in a truly unique 1 of 1 table. Raf Verjans is a Belgian sculptor and goldsmith. He studied at the L’Ecole des métiers d’art at the Maredsous Abbaye in in Belgium, where he gratuated in 1956. He specializes in working with bronze, gold and metal. He has done only a very limited amount of projects involving furniture, making his pieces very hard to come by. In good original condition with wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Some small chips to the black lacquered sides.
