Low Bedroom chair by Joaquim Tenreiro, Brazil 1950s
Low Bedroom chair by Joaquim Tenreiro, Brazil 1950s
Referred to often as the “father” of Brazilian modernism, furniture designer Joaquim Tenreiro, who was born in Portugal and moved to Rio de Janeiro in the late 1920s, refused to indulge the parochial tastes of his new country and instead challenged his clients to appreciate more contemporary styles. The ‘Low Bedroom Chair’ is the perfect example of Joaquim Tenreiro’s inovation, mastery and eye for detail. Made in Brazil in the 1950’s, this rare original model is made out of heavyweight Jacaranda wood and features an elegant curved frame with woven cane seat and back. A true collector’s item that remains in perfect preserved condition.
